ED officials also questioned Jarkiholi’s sister at the residence of her husband, Y Manjunath, who is a Joint Commissioner of Excise, regarding overseas investments and financial dealings.

During the searches, ED officials questioned Dr Girish Sonwalkar, an associate of the Jarkiholi brothers, on some investments and certain financial questions, he said.

He was asked about some investments,s and he answered their questions, Sonwalkar told The New Indian Express, but declined to comment on any details of the probe.

The operation has also assumed political significance, with the followers of Satish Jarkiholi claiming the minister is being targeted because of his clout among the backward classes.

They also argued the searches could undermine a prominent backwards-class leader as his role in Karnataka politics grows, though those cases remain politically contested.

The long tenure, therefore, has also raised questions about the impact on Satish Jarkiholi’s political stature, especially when considering broader discussions about leadership and influence in Karnataka.
